Obituary for Herbert Royce Hoover, Jr.

Herbert Royce Hoover JR., 70, of Pratt, passed away November 27, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Becky WV. He was born 19 May, 1947, the son of the late Herbert Royce and Evelyn Hope Shafer Hoover.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Ann, her two sons Anthony Scott, and Kenneth Wayne, his wife Candice Leann, beloved granddaughter Morgan Nicole Hoover, and his loving dog Koko.

Herbert was born and raised in the southern coal fields of WV and was always fascinated with fast cars and flying. After graduating high school he joined the United States Army and become a aircraft maintainer and crew-member. During his nine years of military service he served his country with honor and distinction to include three tours to Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. After his career in the military, he returned to WV, pursued a career in the coal industry, married, and raised two children.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful people of the Beckley VA Hospital for their commitment in providing excellent care during the hardest of times, it will not be forgotten. We would also like to thank Bill and Judy Curry, and Betty Wendell, for all their support and friendship.

Friends and family are welcome to join us to celebrate Herb’s life from 6-8 PM, Friday, December 1, 2017, at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery WV. Service will be at 8PM with Military Honors at the funeral home with Rev. James Baldwin officiating. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
