Obituary for Larry Simmons Coleman

Larry Simmons Coleman
Larry S. Coleman 61 of Montgomery passed away on October 30, 2017. Larry was born on August 17, 1956 to the late Henry (Big Dune) Simmons and Inez (Coleman) Simmons of Niagara Falls, NY.

Larry was the eldest of six siblings. Growing up in Niagara Falls. He attended local schools where he graduated from Niagara Falls High School (1975) and continued on to Buffalo State where he furthered his studies.

In 1997 he relocated to Montgomery, WV to be with his High School sweetheart and they created a beautiful blended family. Larika, Deion, Ronald, and Michelle.

Larry was employed by Groom Brothers Construction, LLC in Kimberly, WV. He also was a self employed landscaper for neighbors and friends. He had a passion for fishing. His two favorite places, The Kanawha River in Kanawha County, WV and Niagara River in Niagara County, NY.

Always raising children, helping people raise their children, a constant teacher and mentor to others.

Known as "Smooth" in upstate New York, and lovingly called O.G. (Original Gangster) by some and "Pops" by others, depending on the generation in WV. He was a wonderful, kind, and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, confidant, and friend to others. And BEST FRIEND to his wife Joyce. Anybody and everybody who requested his help or needed help could depend on him to be there. He was one who could not say no, and always respected his elders. Many would say he helped keep the community of Montgomery tight, most said he was a pillar of the community and I just say he was loved by everybody. He will be missed by all.

Larry was preceded in death by his father Henry (Big Dune) Simmons, a brother; Willie Henry, grandparents; Nelson and Izone (Burnett) Coleman, and great-grandparents; George and Ella Mae (Adams) Burnett.

He leaves to treasure his memory his loving wife Joyce Ann (Jones) Carr-Coleman, his children and mine; Larika C. Evans (Shawn) of Niagara Falls, NY, Deion Simmons of Buffalo, NY, Ronald E. Carr, Jr. (Amanda) of Buffalo, NY, and Michelle Shine (Joe) of Niagara Falls, NY, his very devoted mother, Inez Simmons of Niagara Falls, NY, the brothers you can always count on Calvin Simmons of Niagara Falls, NY, Carl Simmons (Renee) of Stedman, NC, Kennith "known as Kenny" (Rose) of Carterville, GA., David (Charnell) of San Antonio, TX., and one sister; Andora Wilson of Buffalo, NY. He is also survived by six grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members, special friend Diamond Dave (Sally) and many faithful friends.

From your sweetheart;
I bet you have had just about enough of people telling you how strong you are and how great your doing, especially during this awful, difficult period in your life. Maybe you would rather hear someone say, how much this sucks, how outrageous and unfair it is. Maybe you would rather hear someone tell you that you don't have to be strong all the time, or that it's okay to curse fate and throw a tantrum or two.

GOD HAS PROMISED

God has not promised
We'll always be strong.
Sometimes we are weak,
But he promises a song.

God has not promised
All seasons will be bright.
Some seasons are gloomy,
But He promises light.

God has not promised
Loved ones won't depart.
Sometimes they're called home,
But He heals our hearts.

God has not promised
All days will be pleasant.
Some are impossible,
But He promises his presence.

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

A private family service will be held at Niagara Falls, NY. A public service will be held in Montgomery at a later date. O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
