Obituary for Dr. Ronald Ray Alexander

Dr. Ronald Ray Alexander age 74 of Glen Ferris died September 14, 2016. He was born January 3, 1942 and was the son of the late Calvin E. and Dorothy L. Whitlock Alexander.

He was former Chair of the History Department at West Virginia Tech with 35 years of service. He earned his BA at WVIT, his MA at the University of Kentucky and his Doctorate at University of Kentucky. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and Alumnus of the year in 2005. Ron was active in many local community activities and a former merchant in Montgomery. He was author of the book West Virginia Tech: A History.

Surviving: children Jeffrey Alexander of Montgomery, Cythia Evans of London and Whitney Alexander and wife Ashleigh of Morgantown; companion Linda Richmond; grandchildren Nicholas, Zak, Mak, Ronni, Kenzi and Trey; brother Jack Alexander of Crab Orchard; sisters Mary Johnson of London, Dorcas McWhorter of St Albans and Barbara Mack and her husband Carlos of Newark, Del.

Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Pastor Gary Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call two hours prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
