Obituary for Bert Harry Tackett

Bert Harry Tackett Sr. of Smithers, West Virginia, beloved son of Ferdinand and Ida Belle Tackett, passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia. During his life he proudly served in the Navy during WWII and upon discharge worked in the mines for Peabody Coal Corporation until his retirement. Bert was a former Deacon of Campbell Memorial Baptist Church located in Smithers.
Bert was a loving husband to his wife Margaret L. Tackett for 66 years until her passing in 2001, and a loving father to their three children. He will be greatly missed by his family. Bert was preceded in death by his brothers William J. Tackett, Raymond P. Tackett, Faird Tackett, Jr., John B. Tackett, sisters Marjorie E. Young, Mary K. Bettit, Irene Carraway, wife Margaret L. Tackett, and son Robert Stanley (Buddy) Tackett. He is survived by his brother Franklin D. Tackett, his daughter Shelia F. Madison, and his son Bert Harry Tackett, Jr., grandchildren Amy E. Harwood, Kimberly A. McAndrews, Brielle H. Parker, and great grandchildren Christopher M. McAndrews, Abigail L. Harwood, Taylor M. McAndrews, and Brandon T. McAndrews. A special thank you to Bowers House for helping him pass and peacefully join his Heavenly Father and to ODell Funeral Home for always taking care of our loved ones.
A graveside service with be held in the chapel of Montgomery Memorial Park at London on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chester Bird officiating. Burial will follow in the memorial park.
