Obituary for Genevieve D. Schoolcraft Sandor

Genevieve “Genny” D. Schoolcraft Sandor, 89, of Smithers, passed away September 14, 2018, from a sudden illness. Genny was born to Henry and Cinda Schoolcraft on September 29, 1928. She was the 6th of 13 children. In addition to her parents, Genny was preceded in death by her husband Frank Sandoro, brothers, Earl, Hansford, Hestle, and Ezra, sisters Loretta, Beulah and Sonjia, grandson Christopher Marakovits, and sisters-in-law Rosie and Nellie Sandor.
Genny was a caregiver from an early age helping with her younger siblings, then later with her father, husband, sisters-in-law, and every grandchild. She treasured all of her grandchildren and would have dearly loved her great-grandchildren had dementia not robbed her of the memories of her family. She worked for many years as a custodian at Valley Elementary School where she loved every student like her own.
Genny leaves behind a plethora of family to cherish her memory, her children Lorenzo (Diana) Sandoro of Montgomery, Rosemarie Cohenour of Bridgeport, Anne (Steven) Marakovits of Mason, OH, John Sandoro of Montgomery, and Teresa (Neil) Sandoro-Sweeney of Norristown, PA; grandchildren Maria Anne (Curt), Christina (James), Colt, Alex, Frances, Zach, Ben, and Corinn; great-grandchildren Owen, Embry, Brodie, Genny, Peter, and Charlie; niece and goddaughter Cathy Aquino; and sisters, Patty Munsey, Barbara “Bobbie” Backus, Wanda Atkins, Layhoma “Chuck” Townsend, and Henrietta Snodgrass; and many, many Schoolcraft nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, at St. Anthony’s Shrine, Boomer, with Father Casey Mahone and Father Dominikus Baok SVD as co-celebrants. Entombment will immediately follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 17, at the church where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m.
The family wants to thank the staff of Montgomery Elderly Care Center for their care and attention to Genny for the last four years and the doctors and staff of Montgomery General Hospital for their care during the last week. Flowers are welcome for the service as Genny enjoyed growing and tending to her flowers so much. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
