Obituary for Patricia Ann - Avery Conyers

Patricia Ann Avery Conyers was born April 15, 1946, in Montgomery, WV, to the late Mattie L. Avery and Leon A. Avery Sr. She entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 26, 2018, in Oak Hill, WV.
Pat attended school in Montgomery and graduated from West Virginia State College (now University), majoring in Education in 1969. While attending West Virginia State, she met and married Anthony Conyers Jr. To this union, Anthony Conyers III (T.J.) was born.

Pat began her teaching career in Williamsburg, VA. She later relocated to Maryland with T.J., where she taught elementary school. Pat and T.J. later moved home to Montgomery, where she taught at Valley Elementary School. She later taught at Montgomery Middle School until her retirement as a homebound teacher. Pat attained a Master of Arts in Communications Studies from West Virginia University. She also pursued additional coursework through Trinity Washington University (DC) Office of Continuing Education.

Pat pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., Sorority and remained active in the sorority until she moved into assisted living in Pineville, WV. She enjoyed music, playing in the marching band at Montgomery High School and playing the piano. In her early years, Pat sometimes played piano at First Baptist Church in Montgomery where she was a member. She later attended First Baptist Church of Charleston and volunteered at Union Mission Ministries while living in South Charleston, WV, after her retirement.

Pat leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss her son, Anthony "T.J." Conyers III (LaTonya) of Williamsburg, VA; brothers, Leon Avery Jr. (Louise) of Fort Washington, MD, and Dennis Keith Avery (Kim) of Akron, OH; and sister, Carol La Verne A. Nicholson (Kenneth) of Durham, NC. She is also survived by her beloved grand-daughter, Avery Logan Conyers, and a host other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon A. and Mattie L. Avery.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, at O’Dell Funeral Home of Montgomery, where a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at noon, with Reverend Shelley Bausley officiating.
