Obituary for Pauline N. "Polly" Hughes

Pauline N. “Polly” Hughes 93 of Pratt passed away on April 3, 2018. She was born in Nallen, WV on December 1, 1924 to the late Rev. Lucian A. and Myrtle Kincaid Dorsey. She was also preceded in death by her late husband; Nyle B. Hughes, sister; Audris Dorsey Hagerman, and step-mother; Geraldine Dorsey Ridinger.

She is survived by her daughter; Shirley Hughes Cottrell of Independence, MO., sons; Gary Wayne “Butch” Hughes and wife Sandra of East Bank, WV, Gregory Layne “Bruno” Hughes and wife Jane of Dawes, WV., brother; Randolph Dorsey, sisters; Sally Laufer, and Dr. Bonnie Dorsey. 7 grandchildren; April, Candice, Evan, Andrew, Olivia, Jessica, and Brittney, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Montgomery United Methodist Church, Kanawha Valley Chapter 38 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired with 19 years of service with Pfaff and Smith Builders Supply Company with previous employment to Cook’s Department Store, West Virginia State Tax Department, Town of Pratt Water Company, Holts Grocery Store, and during World War II she made shell cases at the Defeuse Plant in Warren, OH. She was one of the original “Rosie the Riveter”

Service will be held at 1PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
