Obituary for Geroge Lee Vickers

George Lee Vickers, a retired partner of Montgomery’s Vickers and Vickers Law Firm died April 5, 2011 in Thomas Memorial Hospital.
He grew up in Montgomery, served in the US Navy during World War II and was graduated from West Virginia University School of Law in 1955. He practiced law for 12 years in Fayetteville before coming to Montgomery.
George was a member of the West Virginia State Bar and the American Bar Association, a director of the Montgomery National Bank and the Gauley National Bank and Montgomery’s City Attorney for many years. He was also a member of the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Lions club and the Great Kanawha River Navy.
George was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Hastings Vickers; sons Wayne and his wife Carol of Montgomery and Mitch and his wife Kitty of Charleston; daughter Martha Steel and her husband Phil of Washington, DC; daughter-in-law Nancy of Montgomery; grandsons Adam of Montgomery, James of Montgomery, Nathan of Morgantown, Jonathan of Charleston and Ryan of Montgomery. Preceding his in death was his oldest son and law partner, Steve.
Born October 15, 1925 he was the youngest child of the late Charles Milton and Helen Montgomery Vickers of Montgomery. Siblings, all deceased were Milton, Arnold, Carl, Charlotte, Montgomery and Earl.
Suring many years of his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and gardening. He was a kind, private dignified man who will be greatly missed.
The deceased requested that no formal service be held. However you may say a prayer or do a kind act to honor him.
