Obituary for Michael Wayne "Hippi" Roat


Michael W. “Hippi” Roat age 61 of Cannelton died August 24, 2018. He was born June 18, 1957 in Montgomery and was the son of the late Louis W. and Gloria Jean Arthur Roat. He was also preceded in death by his brother Paul L. “Punkin” Roat.

He was a retired coal miner for Cannelton Coal Company and a member of Local 8843 of the UMWA.

Surviving: daughters Savannah Marie Roat of Boomer and Michelle Lynn Roat of Paducah, KY; daughter which he raised Misty Dawn Mull of Oklahoma; former wife and mother of his children Vera Ann Roat of Paducah, KY; brothers Shannon Roat and wife Wanda, Greg Allen Roat and wife Mary and Thomas Roat and wife Marcie all of Cannelton; his caregiver and sister Beverly Pritt and caregiver and niece Crystal Hanshaw both of Cannelton; grandchildren Kirstyn Alan Roat, Darion Machell Wright and their father Demetrius Wright all of Boomer and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Dale Pitsenbarger officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London. Friends may call two hours prior to service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
