Obituary for George Weden Roat

George Weden Roat age 97 of Cannelton died August 8, 2018. He was born at Marting, WV on May 17, 1921 and was the son of the late August and Sadie Goodwin Roat. He was also preceded in death by his wife Imogene Roat and his children Sharon Fannin, Diana Legg, Alice Jarrett, Elmer Roat, Gary Roat and Libby Petry.

He was a retired coal miner from Cannelton Coal Company and a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving: daughter Georgette Watson of Cannelton; several grandchildren; brother Freddie Roat and his wife Patty of Oak Hill and sisters Ruth Stevens and her husband Tommy of Oak Hill and Libby Myers of Montgomery.

Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Ronnie Lilly and Rev. Iva England officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow. Friends may call two hours prior to service at the funeral home on Saturday.
