Obituary for Ret. Cpl. Howard B. "Blue" Atwater

Ret. Cpl. Howard B. (Blue) Atwater, 67, of Boomer, WV, was called home on Saturday, June 23, 2018, after a short illness. Howard was born on April 17, 1951, to the parents of Thomas Z. and Katherine Atwater. He was a disabled Marine Corps veteran and a retired employee of WV Manufacturing LLC. Blue was the friendliest person, and never met a stranger. He made friends throughout WV and many other states as he cheered on his favorite teams, the Steelers and the Mountaineers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Gloria Jean Atwater and Thomasina Redd. He is survived by his loving wife Betsy-Billheimer Atwater; stepson James Ford; two brothers Thomas L. Atwater of Washington, D.C. and Delmas (Christine) Atwater of Melbourne, FL; two sisters Marilyn Atwater-Green of Cleveland, OH, and Adrian Wehmeyer of Mt. Bethel, PA; beloved niece Adrianne Atwater and family of Columbia, MD; Paul Redd and Steven Redd of Atlanta, GA; Katy Perry and family of Cleveland, OH. He is also survived by a host of the best friends anyone could ever have.

Friends may call on Thursday, June 28, from 5-8 pm at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery, WV. A Celebration of Life will begin at 7 pm with Full Military Honors by the US Marine Corp. Honor Guard and the Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Marine Corp League, Detachment 947. In honoring his passion for the Steelers, all that can are asked to wear Steeler apparel.
