Obituary for Naomi Ruth Perry Tackett

Naomi Ruth Perry Tackett went home to be with her Savior on June 3, 2018 after a period of declining health. She was born New Year’s Eve 1934 to Frank Bonich and Hattie Mae Perry. She was raised on Smithers hill and never moved more than 5 miles from her roots, living in Falls View and Longacre before settling in Boomer for 45 years. She attended Oakland Grade School and Montgomery High School and was employed by G.C. Murphy Company following graduation. It was there that she met her future husband, Faird Tackett Jr., and they were married New Year’s Day 1956.
After giving birth to six children and getting them into school, she pursued her desire to be a nurse. She was an LPN for several years and worked at Montgomery General Hospital emergency room for the better part of two decades. While working, she continued her education at West Virginia Tech where she earned her nursing degree as an honor student.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Thomas, in infancy, as well as two brothers, Ernest Perry and Lester Miller and his wife Mary. Her survivors include her five remaining children: Sharon (Mark) Steuerwald, Tammy (James) Elam, Jeanne Ann (Chris) Neff, Dr. James Tackett, Joey (Anna) Tackett; grandchildren: Joey (Sayumi) and Kristen Elam, Julie (Mark) Tharp, Emily, Landon, Naomi Jordan, and Tala Tackett, and Jacob Thompson; great grandchildren: Jeremiah Mullins, Olivia and Emmalyn Ruth Tharp, and baby Elam due later this summer.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7 from 1:00 to 2:00 at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery followed by the funeral service at 2PM officiated by Mark Steuerwald. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park in London. O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, her favorite charity, or the charity or ministry of your choice in her memory.
The family would like to thank Summersville Regional Medical Center staff for the incredible care during Naomi’s final days. We are extremely grateful for the compassion and care shown to both our mother and her family. We are also grateful to her special niece, Lynette Cavalier, nephew, Matthew Tackett, and neighbor who was like a son, Michael Scarbrough, for their help and care over the years. Many Boomer neighbors also helped us care for her and keep her in her home as long as possible. We are grateful to everyone who loved and cared for her and us. We also thank Odell Funeral Home for their care and service.
In her later years, Mother came to know Christ as her Savior. For that reason, though we grieve her absence in our lives now, we rejoice that we will be reunited with her in eternity. For that we are extremely grateful.
