Obituary for Jack Monroe Campbell

Jack Monroe Campbell age 85 of Hansford died April 13, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston. He was born January 30, 1933 in Whittaker and was the son of the late Emra and Thelma Lewis Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his brother Keith Campbell and his sister Helen Ball.

Jack was a member of Coal Valley Lodge #74 AF&AM in Montgomery and also a member of the Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Temple in Charleston. Jack was drafted in the Army during the Korean War and was sent to Germany with the occupation forces for 18 months. He spent his working career in and around the coal mining industry beginning his career with the UMWA for many years, a Federal Mine Inspector and retiring as the Corporate Safety Director for Valley Camp Coal Company.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years Caroline Markham Campbell; daughter Kim Gravitt and her husband Mike; granddaughter Lyndsey Phelps and her husband Michael; great-grandson Campbell Bowen Phelps; brothers Emra “Mim” Campbell and Joe Cambell and his wife Juanita and many special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be at 1:00 PM on Monday at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Friends may call on Monday two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
