Obituary for E.W. "Bill" Bowen

E.W. (Bill) Bowen, 89 years old, of Montgomery, WV met his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ face to face on October 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Hubbard Hospice House. "Absent from the body, present with the Lord."

Bill was born in Smithers, WV to Earl and Bertha Hannah Bowen on May 31, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 58 years Dolores Propps Bowen, and infant son Jimmy Lee, brothers; Robert, Jimmy Lee, Jerry, and Richard. Sisters; Melba, Sue, Patsy, and Shirley, as well as daughter in law Brenda Richmond Bowen.

Those left to cherish his memory are sister; Helen Miller of Man, daughter; Patti Ballard (Greg) of Cross Lanes, sons; Dan Bowen of Nitro, Gary Bowen (Lou Ann) of Montgomery, Tom Bowen of Barboursville, and William Bowen of Falls View. 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was devoted to his family, church, and serving his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was a 50 plus year member of Boomer Baptist Church serving as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Choir member. He had no greater joy than pointing others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Bill was a graduate of Montgomery High School and West Virginia Institute of Technology, a WWII US Marine Corp Veteran and had a talented and multifaceted career. He was an English Teacher at Richwood High School and a youth pastor at Mt. Carmel Church in Luray, Virginia. The majority of his career was as a salesman with Goodwill Publishing where he received numerous accolades for his record breaking sales.

Visitation will be held at Boomer Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 6-8PM, as well as a one hour visitation prior to the service. A funeral service and celebration of his life will be held at Boomer Baptist Church on October 12, 2017 at 1PM, with Pastor Mark Strickland officiating. Burial will be at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow immediately following the service. Special thanks to Hospice Home Care and Hubbard Hospice House for their outstanding and compassionate care. O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Boomer Baptist Church.
