Obituary for James Rose Anderson

On Sept. 4, 2016 the world lost a great man and heaven gained another Angel. Jim “Mr. A” Anderson passed peacefully with his family and loved ones by his side after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents: Ruth Anderson, James Abram Garfield Rose, Evelyn Anderson, and George Anderson.

Jim completed his high school education at East Bank High School. He received his undergraduate degree from WVUIT while continuing post graduate studies throughout his career. He began his teaching career at Scott High School, followed by Greenbrier West, and finished the bulk of his career at East Bank Junior High School. He played and recorded with countless musicians in many different venues, including international performances. The accomplishments he achieved throughout his life are too long to list but the most important to him were being the musical director at his church, directing the band at his alma mater, named citizen of the year in town of East Bank, and being presented a Service Award from Special Olympics Committee. The leisure activities that he enjoyed were fishing, golfing, performing music, swimming, diving, coaching, watching sports, telling stories, and most importantly spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. His most prized possessions were things that could not be quantified or put into words, they were his love for music, his passion for teaching and desire to help others.

He is survived by his wife MaryAnn Brown Anderson; three children Jamie (Roxie), Travis (Brianna), and Adam (Amber); five grandchildren that he cherished Alexis, Brock, Bentley, MaKayla and Aria; brothers Joseph Veazey, Michael Veazey; and sister Marybeth Copley.

Visitation will be Wednesday Sept. 7, 2016 from 6-9PM at O’Dell Funeral Home Montgomery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com

In lieu of flowers, to honor him, the family is establishing a music scholarship at West Virginia University to aid local students who wish to pursue music as a career. To donate please contact the family at the following e-mail: jimandersonscholarshipfund@gmail.com.
