Obituary for Robert R. Linkous


Robert "Bob" Ray Linkous, 84, of Julian WV passed away Monday, January 25 at the Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Home in Charleston.
Bob was born and raised in the Cedar Grove / Glasgow area, later settling in Boone County during the 1980s. He has been a resident of Julian,WV since 1989.
Bob lettered in football at East Bank High School. During his high school years, he was a projectionist at Palmer's Movie Theater in Cedar Grove, where his wife, Patsy Cobb Linkous was a teller in the ticket booth.. He worked for the Cabot Gas Company during the summer months, and was a member of the crew installing gas pipes at the Yeager Airport. He worked most of his adult life as an electrician in the coal mines (38 years) in and around the Kanawha and Boone County areas. He began his mining career working for the Warner Collieries and North American Coal Companies in Mammoth, In Boone County he worked for Omar Mining, and finished his career with the Massey Coal Company, where he retired in 1985. Bob was a member of the UMWA.
Bob was a faithful Christian and attended the Olive Baptist Church of Julian. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed putting in his large garden every Spring.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Nellie Linkous;
brothers-Coach Charles B. Linkous (Clarice), and Floyd Patrick Linkous; Sisters-Jean Brown (Robert) and Venita Hancock (Rev. John
Hancock).; Son-in-law Carmen Claypool. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Cobb Griffin, and his second wife Phyllis Kincaid Graham.
He is survived by his children, Cathy Claypool of Orlando, FL, Karen Parfitt (Tim) of Glasgow WV, and Steve Linkous (Katie) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Sister Susie Delores Coburn (Rev. Fred Coburn) of Goose Creek, SC and Rufus Lincoln Linkous (Hannalorie) of Leland. NC.; Grand Children- Nicole Crozier (Chris) of Clermont FL, Sarah Linkous of Jacksonville, FL and Jason Linkous (April) of Ogden, Utah; Sister-in law Seba Linkous; Six great grand children. He is also survived by his good friend and companion, Frieda Mae Jenkins of Julian, WV.
The family would like to thank Rev. Franklin and Joan Goff for their undying friendship, and their faithful vigilance during his sickness, as well as Phil and Shirley Hill, and Richard Hill of Julian for all of their help and support over the years. Also, thanks to Patty Karns, Charles and Lou Gancs and Mandy and Matt Levitt for their time and kindness.

Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 30, 2016 at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Fred Coburn officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.
