Obituary for Howard K. Nunley

Howard K. Nunley, 88, of Montgomery completed his earthly journey on April 15, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House In Charleston, WV He was born August 25, 1925, in Montgomery, to the late Albert S. and Edna M. Nunley.

He was a professor of accounting at West Virginia Institute of Technology for 34 years, and maintained a professional practice in Montgomery for over 25 years. He was named Outstanding Accounting Educator by the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1996, Alumnus of the Year by the WVIT Alumni Association in 2003, and Professor Emeritus by West Virginia Tech upon retirement. He was a WWII veteran, proudly serving the US Air Force in the China Burma India Theater. He was also a member of the First Christian Church, Montgomery and the Coal Valley Lodge #74 AF&AM in Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Hattie L. Nunley. He is survived by his sons, Robert M. Nunley of St. Albans and Steven D. Nunley and his wife, Kathy, of Pratt; former daughter-in-law Nancy Nunley of Morgantown; grandchildren Sarah Kendall and her husband, Eric, Rebecca Nunley, Melanie Elswick and her husband, Jeff, Karidi Holley, and Ryan Nunley; and six great-grandchildren. The family would also extend a special thanks to Roland Madison, former student and colleague, who called him every day for the past several years.

Service will be 1:00 PM Saturday at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
