Obituary for Margaret S. "Pat" O'Malley

Margaret S. “Pat” O’Malley
Margaret S. “Pat” O’Malley, 88, of Hansford passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at CAMC Memorial Hospital while surrounded by loving family.
Pat was a loving wife and devoted mother, and a grandmother who you didn’t want to cross. In addition, she was a U.S. Army WAC, restaurant owner, ceramics maker, and secretary for the WV Medical Licensing Board.
Pat joined a traditional Irish family when she married George V. O’Malley, Sr. She immediately developed the necessary Irish traits of temper, stubbornness, and attitude all of which have been passed down to each and every child and grandchild.
After retirement, game playing and crossword puzzle working became important pastimes. Pat was the family’s Yatzee, Go Fish, Uno, and Canasta champion, and had no pity on anyone she played…including her grandchildren.
Throughout her years, Pat enjoyed telling stories and sharing experiences from her travels around the globe. If there was a car being packed heading on a trip, you could bet she wouldn’t be too far behind with suitcase in hand.
Newfound interests of wheelchair Cornhole and Bingo were developed during her brief stay in Charleston Gardens.
She was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Hansford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George V. O’Malley, Sr.; sister, Victoria Smith; and great grandson, Logan Workman.
She is survived by her children: Carol Workman and husband, Charles “Boonie,” of Hansford; Carolyn “Mikki” Payne and husband, Dan, also of Hansford; Kathleen Mannion and husband, James, of Nitro; and George V. “Butch” O’Malley, Jr and wife, Jamie, of Charleston. Grandchildren: Charles Workman, Jr; Erin Newell; Rosemary Hughes; J.B. Workman; Michael Mannion; Vince Payne; Megan Mannion; Patrick O’Malley; and Meredith O’Malley. Great grandchildren: Nicholas Hughes, Brandon Workman, Cassidy Workman, and Evan Newell.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery. Visitation will be held Friday, February 26 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again Saturday, February 27 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Formal funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be sent at www.odellfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request you mail a donation to Church of the Good Shepherd at Center Street, Hansford, WV 25103.
